Samsung televisions work with Apple, and the directory lists 43 Samsung products — which are not all televisions. Monitors, projectors, soundbars and a picture frame that is secretly a speaker all carry AirPlay 2, and they are the interesting half of this page.
First, the distinction that decides which of them you want:
- AirPlay 2 sends pictures and sound from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to the screen or the speaker. This is the feature people actually use, and every product listed here has it.
- Apple Home puts the set in the Home app as an accessory, with a tile you can drop into a scene. You get power and input selection. You do not get channel changing or control of the interface, on this brand or any other.
“Samsung TV HomeKit code”
This is the most searched Samsung question on this site, and the answer is that there is no code to look up. There is no universal one, and there is no sticker on the back of the set.
The television generates an eight-digit setup code and puts it on the screen at the moment you start pairing. To get there:
- On the TV, open Settings → General → Apple AirPlay Settings.
- Turn AirPlay on, then choose the HomeKit option and start pairing.
- Read the code off the screen.
- On the iPhone, open the Home app, add an accessory, and scan or type it in.
If the television will not appear on the phone at all, put both on the same network and the same band before trying anything cleverer. That is the cause nine times in ten.
Whether the HomeKit half is offered at all depends on the model and the year — Samsung’s Apple support has not been identical across every range and every market, and several sets gained features by firmware update rather than shipping with them. The menu on your own set is the authority, not the brand name. If the AirPlay settings screen offers no HomeKit option, that set does not have it, and no amount of hunting in the Home app will produce one.
Adding a set to the Home app also needs a home hub — a HomePod or an Apple TV. AirPlay 2 works without one.
Televisions
Neo QLED 8K: QN800 and QN900
The QN800 series (Amazon UK) and the QN900 series (Amazon UK) are the top of Samsung’s range. Worth saying plainly: 8K content barely exists, and these are worth their money for the panel and the processing rather than for the number on the box.
Below them sit the 4K Neo QLED sets — the QN90 and QN95 — and the QLED and Crystal UHD ranges under those. All of them are in the grid below.
The ones that are not shaped like televisions
Samsung’s design range is unusually well represented here, and every one of these is an AirPlay target:
- The Frame — the set that hangs flat and shows artwork when it is off.
- The Freestyle — the portable projector that points anywhere.
- The Serif — the one with the shelf.
Not televisions at all
Monitors
Samsung’s Smart Monitor M5, M7 and M8 run the same TV software on a desk, and the Odyssey gaming monitors carry AirPlay as well — which makes a monitor an AirPlay target for a Mac or an iPhone without a computer being involved at all. Both ranges are in the grid.
Soundbars, and a picture frame
The HW-Q990D is the flagship soundbar, 11.1.4 channels with a wireless subwoofer and rear speakers in the box. Check price on Amazon UK
The Music Frame is the odd and rather good one: a speaker built into a photo frame, so it disappears into a wall instead of sitting on a shelf. Put your own print in it. Check price on Amazon UK
