The Abode Smart Security Kit is the version of Abode’s system without a camera in the hub. You get the Security Hub, sensors and a key fob, and you add cameras separately if you want them.
That makes it the cheaper way in, and the more flexible one: the hub can sit wherever it works best on the network rather than wherever a camera needs to point.
What works in Apple Home
- Arm and disarm the system, and switch between Home, Away and Night modes.
- Read the door, window and motion sensors as individual accessories.
- Use the system in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.
Check the hub generation before you buy
This is the important caution. Abode has shipped more than one hub, and they do not all support the same things. Some versions connect only by wired Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi, and support for Apple Home, Z-Wave and Zigbee has differed between them.
Confirm which hub is in the box you are buying, and confirm that it lists Apple Home, before you order. If Apple Home support is essential and you want a camera included, the Abode iota is the safer choice.
Monitoring
Self-monitoring is included. Professional monitoring is an optional plan, without a long contract.
