The AirTouch Smart AC Bridge is a small adapter that connects an AirTouch 5 ducted air conditioning system to Apple Home. It is not a controller in its own right, and it does nothing without an AirTouch 5 already installed.
Why ducted air conditioning needs this
Ducted systems are zoned. One outdoor unit feeds several rooms through dampers, and AirTouch is the controller that manages up to 16 of those zones. A generic smart thermostat cannot do that. The Smart AC Bridge is how that zoning appears in the Home app rather than only on the wall panel.
What works in Apple Home
- Set the temperature and read the current temperature.
- Control zones as separate accessories.
- Use the air conditioning in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.
Before you buy
Two things to check first.
The bridge connects to the HomeKit port on the AirTouch 5 Main Module with an RJ12 cable and takes its power from that cable, so there is no separate power supply to find.
The Main Module needs firmware V2.0.0.3 or later. On an older installation, the firmware update comes first, and that may mean a service call.
AirTouch is an Australian product from Polyaire, so availability outside Australia and New Zealand is limited.
As with any Apple Home accessory, remote access and automations need a home hub in the house: a HomePod or an Apple TV.
