Arcam ST60

Wi-Fi

The Arcam ST60 is a network streamer: a source component that feeds an existing amplifier, with no amplification of its own.

Arcam is a British manufacturer, part of the Harman group, with a long history of well-regarded DACs and CD players. The ST60 sits in that tradition, concentrating on the digital-to-analogue conversion and the network handling rather than trying to be a whole system.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.

  • It shows up in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
  • You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
  • Siri can send music to it by room name.
  • It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

It is not an accessory you switch on or set the volume of from the Home app. Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app.

Before you buy

A streamer is the right purchase when you already have an amplifier and speakers you like, and want to add network audio without changing them. If any part of the existing system is the weak link, fix that first.

Check the output sockets against your amplifier’s inputs, and check whether you want the streamer’s own volume control or your amplifier’s.
