Beamtec IRODORI PLUM® CL-12WIFI LED Ceiling Light

Wi-Fi

The Beamtec IRODORI PLUM CL-12WIFI is a Japanese flush ceiling light, and it is sized the Japanese way: rated for a room of about 12 tatami mats, which is roughly 20 square metres. If you are shopping outside Japan, that is the number to translate before anything else.

No app required

This light is unusual in that it needs no manufacturer app at all. You add it to the Apple Home app and control it from there, on an iPhone, an iPad or a Mac. For anybody who resents installing a separate app for every fitting in the house, that alone is a reason to look at it.

What works in Apple Home

  • Turn the light on and off, and set brightness and white temperature.
  • Group it into rooms and zones alongside the rest of your lighting.
  • Use it in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.

The numbers

It puts out around 5200 lumens at daylight colour, draws between about 5.5 W and 52 W depending on the setting, and dims steplessly from full down to roughly ten per cent. Colour temperature is adjustable steplessly rather than in fixed steps. Colour rendering is Ra83 or better.

It measures about 45 cm across, weighs 1.4 kg, is rated for 40,000 hours and carries a two-year warranty. A two-level night light and a timer are built in.

Before you buy

This is the important one: the fitting runs on AC 100 V at 50 or 60 Hz, the Japanese mains standard. It is not designed for a 230 V supply, and it uses the Japanese ceiling rose fitting. Outside Japan this is not a straightforward purchase.
