The Bang & Olufsen Beoconnect Core is a small streaming box whose job is to bring older Bang & Olufsen speakers into a modern network. It is not a speaker and not an amplifier.
That matters because B&O active speakers last a long time and often outlive their streaming. Beoconnect Core connects to them over B&O’s own Powerlink and wireless Powerlink connections and adds current network audio, including AirPlay 2 and Chromecast built-in.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.
Before you buy
Check what connections your speakers have. Beoconnect Core is designed for B&O active speakers with Powerlink, and it is not a general-purpose streamer for any hi-fi system.
For a household that already owns Beolab speakers, this is a far cheaper route to current streaming than replacing them, and it is the reason the product exists.
