Cambridge Audio Evo One
The Cambridge Audio Evo One is an all-in-one music system: a single wide cabinet holding a fourteen-driver array, the amplification and the streaming, finished in real walnut with a woven front.
Cambridge Audio’s Evo range began with a compact streaming amplifier; the Evo One takes the same electronics and adds the speakers, so the system is complete in one object.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker and its own app.
Before you buy
An all-in-one cannot produce the stereo width that two separated speakers can. Cambridge uses driver placement and processing to widen it, and the result is good for the format rather than a substitute for a pair.
It has HDMI ARC, so it can be the television’s sound system as well.
If you already own speakers, the Cambridge Audio EXN100 streamer with a separate amplifier will outperform it.
