Classic STREAM

Wi-Fi

The Cyrus Classic STREAM is the most affordable streamer in the Cyrus range, and it borrows engineering from the more expensive XR and 40 Series components above it.

Like the rest of the range it runs BluOS, and it handles lossless audio up to 24-bit/192kHz across the network. It is a source component: no amplifier, no speakers, meant to plug into a hi-fi system you already own.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.

  • It shows up in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
  • You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
  • Siri can send music to it by room name.
  • It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

It is not an accessory you switch on or set the volume of from the Home app. Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app.

Because BluOS is a multi-room platform in its own right, you have two ways to run several rooms: through BluOS, or through AirPlay 2 alongside HomePods. Mixing both in one house works but is worth thinking about before you buy, because it means two apps.

Before you buy

A streamer replaces a CD player or a turntable in the signal chain, not an amplifier. Check that your amplifier has a spare line input.

The Cyrus 40 ST and the Stream XR sit above it in the same range.
