Dynaudio Focus

The Dynaudio Focus range is the Danish manufacturer’s line of active wireless loudspeakers: the amplification, digital conversion and streaming are built into the cabinets, so no separate electronics are required.

Dynaudio makes its own drivers, which is rarer than it sounds, and the Focus range pairs those drivers with amplification designed specifically for them.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.

• It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
• You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
• Siri can send music to it by room name.
• It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker and its own app.

Before you buy

Dynaudio’s room correction system measures the speakers in place and compensates for the wall behind them, which matters because active speakers often end up closer to walls than passive ones would be.

Each speaker needs a mains socket, so plan the placement around the sockets rather than the other way round.

The Focus models are full-size speakers. The Dynaudio Codi is the compact alternative.
