ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced

The ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced sits in the middle of ecobee’s range and is the model most households should look at first.

It keeps the radar occupancy sensing and the larger display of the Premium, and drops the air quality monitor, the built-in microphone and speaker, and the nickel finish. It supports one accessory connected by a single wire rather than two at once, and no SmartSensor is included in the box.

• Set the target temperature and the mode, and read the current temperature and humidity.
• Use the thermostat in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.
• Read the remote SmartSensors as separate accessories.

Remote sensors

ecobee’s remote SmartSensors are the reason people choose this brand, and every model in the range works with them. A thermostat in the hallway does not know that the back bedroom is cold. A sensor in that bedroom tells it, and the thermostat can average the rooms that are occupied rather than heating to the temperature of the hallway wall.

Because no sensor is included here, price the thermostat and at least one sensor together when you compare it with the Premium.

Before you buy

Check for a C wire before ordering. ecobee supplies a power extender kit for systems without one, but a proper C wire is the reliable answer.

If you want air quality readings or Siri built into the wall unit, you need the Premium. If you want to spend less and can manage without radar occupancy sensing, look at the Essential.
