Ecolink ClearSky Home Monitoring Kit

The Ecolink ClearSky Home Monitoring Kit is a security system built for Apple Home and nothing else. There is no Ecolink account, no app to sign into and no monthly fee. You self-monitor through the Home app on your iPhone.

For anybody who has looked at a security system and balked at the subscription, that is the whole pitch.

What is in the box

Six pieces: the ClearSky bridge, a combined chime and siren, two contact sensors, a motion sensor and a key fob, with a power supply and an Ethernet cable.

What works in Apple Home

• Arm and disarm the system, and switch between Home, Away and Night modes.
• Read each contact and motion sensor as its own accessory.
• Trigger the chime and siren from automations.
• Use Siri to arm, disarm and check the state of the house.

Before you buy

The bridge plugs into your router by Ethernet, so plan for a free port near it.

Being Apple-only is the strength and the limitation. If anybody in the household runs Android, they have no way in. Check that before you commit.

Ecolink sells further ClearSky sensors separately, including flood and smoke detectors, so the kit is a starting point rather than a fixed system.

As with any Apple Home accessory, remote access and automations need a home hub in the house: a HomePod or an Apple TV.
