Eimsig Security System (3rd generation)
The EIMSIG Security System (3rd generation) is a German alarm system, and EIMSIG’s claim is that it was the first in Europe designed to integrate fully with Apple Home rather than to bolt onto it afterwards.
Scale
Up to 90 sensors can be brought into the Apple Home app from a single system. That is far beyond what most Apple Home alarm systems handle, and it is what makes this a realistic choice for a large house rather than a flat.
The sensors
EIMSIG’s sensors sit in the window and door frames rather than on the surface, so they are largely invisible once fitted. The current generation distinguishes three states rather than two: closed, open and tilted. Anybody with European tilt-and-turn windows will recognise why that matters, because a tilted window is neither secure nor an intrusion. Glass break detection is included.
What works in Apple Home
- Arm and disarm the system, and switch modes.
- Read each contact and glass break sensor as its own accessory.
- Use the system in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.
Connected electrical contacts such as light switches, wireless sockets and roller shutter motors can also be registered to the system.
Reliability
A backup battery keeps the system running through a power cut, and it continues to work without an internet connection. An alarm that stops working when the broadband drops is not an alarm, so this is worth more than it sounds.
Before you buy
EIMSIG sells in Germany and neighbouring markets, and installation is normally done by their installers rather than by you.
