eufy Indoor Cam E30

The eufy Indoor Cam E30 records at 4K and adds a spotlight, which is what makes colour night vision possible: instead of switching to grey infrared when the lights go out, it lights the scene and keeps the colour. Infrared is still there for full darkness, reaching roughly 30 feet, with colour night vision over a shorter range.

Like the rest of the line it stores footage locally on a microSD card with no subscription, and it pans and tilts to follow people and pets across a room.

What HomeKit Secure Video gives you

Secure Video moves the clever part of the camera onto hardware you own. A HomePod or an Apple TV in the house analyses the footage, and the clips go to iCloud encrypted end to end, where they do not count against your storage allowance.

In return you get person, animal, vehicle and package detection, activity zones so the camera ignores a busy pavement, and face recognition drawn from the People album in your own Photos library.

You need an iCloud+ plan for it. The 50 GB tier covers one camera, 200 GB covers five, and 2 TB removes the limit.

Apple Home shows the Secure Video feed at 1080p while the camera keeps recording at its full resolution to local storage. That is the normal trade for HomeKit Secure Video and not a fault of the camera: you get Apple’s private analysis and encrypted clips in the Home app, and the higher-resolution footage in the eufy app.

Before you buy

4K is only worth paying for if you will actually look at the local recordings. If the Home app is where you will watch, the cheaper eufy Indoor Cam E220 shows you the same 1080p there.

Buy a microSD card rated for continuous video writing at the same time, because one is not usually included.
