IKEA TRÅDFRI Gateway – supports lights, speakers, blinds and outlets
The IKEA TRÅDFRI Gateway was IKEA’s first smart home hub. It brings TRÅDFRI bulbs, drivers, blinds, sockets and SYMFONISK speakers into Apple Home over Zigbee.
Read this before you buy one
The TRÅDFRI gateway is discontinued. IKEA replaced it with DIRIGERA, which adds Wi-Fi and Thread radios alongside Zigbee and works as a Matter bridge, where TRÅDFRI is Zigbee only. IKEA has committed to security patches for the old gateway for a few more years, and existing devices can be migrated across to DIRIGERA.
So there are only two good reasons to be on this page. Either you already own a TRÅDFRI gateway and want to know what it does in Apple Home, or you have found one cheaply second-hand. If you are starting from nothing, buy the DIRIGERA instead.
What works in Apple Home
- Control TRÅDFRI lights, including brightness and, on colour models, colour and white temperature.
- Open and close TRÅDFRI blinds.
- Switch TRÅDFRI sockets.
- Use all of them in scenes and automations, and control them with Siri.
Before you buy
The gateway needs a spare Ethernet port on your router. It has no Wi-Fi.
As with any Apple Home accessory, remote access and automations need a home hub in the house: a HomePod or an Apple TV.
