The JBL 4305P is a powered studio monitor for the home: a compact two-way speaker in JBL’s Studio Monitor line, with amplification, conversion and streaming built into the pair, so no separate amplifier is needed.

The blue baffle and the Quadrex grille are direct descendants of JBL’s professional monitors, and the compression driver on a horn is a professional design choice rather than a domestic one.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.

  • It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
  • You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
  • Siri can send music to it by room name.
  • It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker itself and its own app.

Before you buy

Powered monitors are sold as a pair and connected to each other, with one speaker holding the electronics. Plan for mains power at one speaker and a cable between them.

Horn-loaded designs are efficient and vivid, which some listeners love and others find forward. Hear them before committing.

The JBL 4329P is the larger model in the same family.
