The LIFX Colour 1100lm BR30 is the reflector-shaped bulb in the LIFX range. A BR30 is wider and flatter than a standard bulb, and it throws its light forwards rather than in all directions, so it is the shape used in recessed ceiling cans, downlights and track fittings.
What works in Apple Home
- Turn the light on and off, and set brightness, colour and white temperature.
- Group it into rooms and zones alongside the rest of your lighting.
- Use it in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.
Connectivity
LIFX bulbs join your Wi-Fi network directly. There is no bridge to buy, no hub to power and no spare Ethernet port to find, which is the main practical difference between LIFX and bridge-based systems such as Philips Hue. As always in Apple Home, remote access and automations need a HomePod or an Apple TV in the house.
Before you buy
Check the can depth and diameter in your ceiling. BR30 is a US size, and a European downlight is more likely to want a GU10 or an E14 reflector, so this bulb may not be the right shape for your fittings at all.
A recessed fitting also traps heat. Make sure the can is rated for an enclosed LED, otherwise the bulb will run hot and its life will be short.
If a camera watches the room, the BR30 Nightvision Edition adds infrared for night vision.
