LIFX Neon

Wi-Fi

The LIFX Neon is a bendable rope light in thick matte silicone. Unlike a flat adhesive strip it holds a shape, so you can bend it by hand into letters, curves, corners or a frame and mount it as a finished object rather than hiding it behind something.

It is also the densest light in the LIFX range. Depending on the length, it carries roughly 24 to 60 independently addressable colour zones, which is what lets a gradient look smooth along a curve instead of stepped.

What works in Apple Home

  • Turn the light on and off, and set brightness, colour and white temperature.
  • Group it into rooms and zones alongside the rest of your lighting.
  • Use it in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.

Apple Home sees the rope as a single light. The zone-by-zone effects live in the LIFX app.

Connectivity

LIFX bulbs join your Wi-Fi network directly. There is no bridge to buy, no hub to power and no spare Ethernet port to find, which is the main practical difference between LIFX and bridge-based systems such as Philips Hue. Remote access and automations still need a HomePod or an Apple TV in the house.

Before you buy

LIFX sells indoor and outdoor versions. Only the outdoor version is weatherproofed, so check the model code if the rope is going outside.

Plan the shape and the position of the power connection before you fix anything. The silicone bends, but it does not bend back neatly once you have screwed the mounting clips down.
