Loewe multi.room amp

The Loewe multi.room amp is a compact amplifier designed to add a pair of speakers to a room as part of Loewe’s multi-room system, rather than to be the main hi-fi.

Loewe is a German television manufacturer whose audio products are built to match its sets, and the multi.room range exists so that a house with a Loewe television can extend the same system and the same app into other rooms.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.

• It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
• You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
• Siri can send music to it by room name.
• It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker and its own app.

Before you buy

The case for this amplifier is coherence with the rest of a Loewe system. If you own the television and the klang bar3, a matching amplifier keeps one app and one set of rooms.

If this would be your only Loewe product, a mainstream streaming amplifier will cost less and be easier to support.

It drives passive speakers, so ceiling or bookshelf speakers and the cable to them are additional costs.
