The Marantz CINEMA 30 is Marantz’s flagship AV receiver, and it is the model where the brand’s separate identity from Denon is clearest. Both are owned by the same group and share engineering, but Marantz voices its amplifiers differently and builds them into its own casework, with the distinctive porthole display.

It is a large multi-channel receiver for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D, with the processing and the amplification for a full cinema layout.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 device, not a HomeKit accessory, and the difference matters.

  • It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and in Control Centre as an AirPlay target.
  • You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
  • Siri can send music to it by room name.
  • You can use it as the audio output in a scene or an automation.

What you cannot do is turn it on, change the input or set the volume from the Home app as if it were a smart plug. Power, inputs and surround processing stay on the remote, the front panel and the manufacturer’s own app.

Before you buy

At this level the room does more for the result than the receiver does. Speaker placement, seating position and some acoustic treatment will change the sound more than moving up a model.

Plan the installation properly: it is heavy, it runs warm, and it wants ventilation and a shelf that will take it.

The Marantz STEREO 70s is the two-channel alternative in the same family for a living room rather than a cinema room.
