The Marantz HORIZON and GRAND HORIZON are all-in-one wireless speakers, and they look like nothing else the company makes: a curved, glass-topped disc designed to be seen from above as much as from the front.
They contain the speakers, the amplification and the streaming, so nothing else is required. The GRAND HORIZON is the larger of the two.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker itself and its own app.
Before you buy
These are design objects with serious audio inside, priced accordingly. The nearest comparison is a Bang & Olufsen or a Devialet rather than a conventional hi-fi system.
Decide where it will stand before you buy. The glass top is meant to be looked down on, so a low table serves it better than a high shelf.
For conventional hi-fi from the same brand, the MODEL 60n is the traditional route.
