Marantz LINK 10n

The Marantz LINK 10n is a high-end streaming preamplifier and digital-to-analogue converter, part of the flagship pairing Marantz introduced alongside its matching power amplifier.

At this level the company is competing with specialist high-end brands rather than with mainstream hi-fi, and the casework and the analogue output stage reflect that.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.

• It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
• You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
• Siri can send music to it by room name.
• It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker itself and its own app.

Before you buy

A preamplifier needs a power amplifier and speakers. The LINK 10n is designed around its matching amplifier, and buying one without the other is possible but is not what the product was designed for.

HEOS is available for multi-room, but at this level most owners will use the unit as a two-channel source rather than as part of a whole-house system.
