McIntosh RS250 Wireless Loudspeaker System
The McIntosh RS250 is the larger of McIntosh’s wireless loudspeakers: a wider cabinet with more drivers and more amplification than the RS150, and the same black glass and green logo.
Because the cabinet is wider, the drivers are further apart, so it produces a broader sound from a single unit than the smaller model manages.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker itself and its own app.
Before you buy
Measure the surface. This is a substantial object and it is meant to be displayed rather than tucked away.
As a one-box system it will not match McIntosh separates driving proper loudspeakers, and it is not meant to. It exists for the second room, the study or the bedroom of somebody who already owns the big system.
