MOON 891 Network Player
The MOON 891 is Simaudio’s flagship network player: streamer, digital-to-analogue converter and preamplifier in one very substantial chassis, designed to feed a power amplifier directly.
At this level the engineering money goes into power supplies, isolation and the analogue output stage rather than into features. The streaming platform is the same MiND system used across the range.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.
Before you buy
A flagship source component only earns its place if the amplifier, the speakers and the room are already at a level that can show what it does. In most systems the money would do more elsewhere.
The MOON 791 offers the same function set in a smaller chassis, and the MOON 681 without the preamplifier stage.
