The Nanoleaf 4D lights the wall behind a television to match what is on the screen. Unlike systems that sit between your devices and the TV on HDMI, the 4D uses a small camera that clips to the set and reads the picture optically.
That difference matters. Because nothing passes through an HDMI box, the 4D works with any source: a games console, a set-top box, a streaming stick, or the TV’s own built-in apps. It also sidesteps the HDMI version and copy-protection problems that catch out pass-through systems.
What works in Apple Home
- Turn the lighting on and off, and set brightness and colour.
- Group it into rooms and zones alongside the rest of your lighting.
- Use it in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.
Screen mirroring itself runs in the Nanoleaf app, not in the Home app. Treat the 4D as an Apple Home light that has a mirroring mode of its own.
Before you buy
The camera has to see the whole screen and needs a one-off calibration, so it wants a clear mounting position and a stable view. A TV on a bracket that swivels will need recalibrating when you move it.
Kits are sold by screen size. Measure the diagonal and the space behind the set before ordering, because the lightstrip has to run the full perimeter.
