PORSCHE 911 Soundbar 2.0

Wi-Fi

The PORSCHE 911 Soundbar 2.0 is a soundbar built from the rear silencer of a Porsche 911 exhaust system, finished and mounted as an audio product. The tailpipes are real, and the shape is the reason it exists.

It is made under licence by Porsche Design, and it belongs in the same category as a watch or a pen from the same studio: an object bought because of what it is, with the audio engineering secondary.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.

  • It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
  • You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
  • Siri can send music to it by room name.
  • It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

Television sound does not go through Apple Home at all. That arrives over HDMI ARC or optical from the television, and the soundbar’s own remote and app control the modes and the volume.

Before you buy

Judge it honestly. For the money, a conventional soundbar from an audio manufacturer will sound better. Nobody buys this instead of a Sennheiser or a Samsung on sound quality, and the listings do not really claim otherwise.

Check the width and the mounting arrangement against your television and furniture, because the shape is dictated by a car part rather than by a living room.

If the object appeals, that is a perfectly good reason to buy it. It just is not an audio argument.
