Primare SC15 Prisma MK2

The Primare SC15 Prisma MK2 is a streaming preamplifier from the Swedish manufacturer Primare. It handles network streaming, digital conversion, input switching and volume, and feeds a separate power amplifier.

Prisma is Primare’s own streaming and control platform, used across the range, and it supports AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.

• It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
• You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
• Siri can send music to it by room name.
• It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.

Before you buy

Primare’s design language is unusually restrained even by Scandinavian standards, and the units are slim. That suits a room where the equipment should not announce itself.

A preamplifier needs a power amplifier and speakers to go with it. Primare’s own SPA25 and SP25 cover other roles in the same Prisma family.
