Primare SP25 Prisma
The Primare SP25 Prisma is a surround sound preamplifier and processor with Primare’s Prisma streaming built in. It handles home cinema decoding and switching, and feeds separate power amplifiers.
That combination is less common than it sounds. Most home cinema processors are built by AV specialists and treat two-channel music as secondary; Primare comes from the hi-fi side and treats it as the priority.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.
Before you buy
A processor needs multi-channel power amplification to go with it, which is a substantial extra purchase. The SPA25 is the version with the amplification built in.
Prisma supports AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth.
