Primare SPA25 Prisma
The Primare SPA25 Prisma is a surround sound amplifier: the processing and switching of the SP25 with multi-channel power amplification built into the same chassis.
For most rooms that is the more sensible arrangement. It removes a box, a set of interconnects and a considerable amount of money compared with a processor and separate amplifiers, and it comes from a manufacturer whose reputation is built on two-channel music rather than on home cinema alone.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.
Before you buy
Count your speakers and check the channel count matches the layout you intend, including any height speakers.
Primare’s Prisma platform handles AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth, so the same unit serves as the house music system as well as the cinema.
