T+A PSD 3100 HV

The T+A PSD 3100 HV is a source component from T+A’s HV range, the German manufacturer’s flagship line: a combined streamer, digital-to-analogue converter and CD/SACD drive in a very substantial chassis.

The HV designation refers to high-voltage analogue circuitry, T+A’s approach to running its analogue output stages at voltages closer to those used in valve equipment, in pursuit of a particular character.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.

• It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
• You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
• Siri can send music to it by room name.
• It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker and its own app.

Before you buy

Everything in the HV range is heavy and physically large, and the components are designed to be used together. Shelf depth, weight and ventilation are real considerations.

T+A is sold through specialist dealers and expected to be demonstrated before purchase.
