The T+A R 2500 R is an all-in-one receiver from T+A’s R Series: amplifier, CD and SACD drive, network streamer, DAC and radio in a single large chassis. Add speakers and the system is complete.
For a manufacturer at this level that is an unusual product. Most high-end brands sell separates; T+A has built its reputation partly on doing the opposite, with everything engineered together in one box.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.
Before you buy
The argument for a machine like this is coherence: one power supply, one set of internal connections, no interconnects between boxes and no matching to worry about. The argument against is that everything is replaced at once when any part becomes limiting.
T+A is sold through specialist dealers and is normally demonstrated before purchase.
The MP 2000 R G3 is the source-only equivalent for use with a separate amplifier.
