Tivoli Model Two Digital

The Tivoli Model Two Digital updates one of the most recognisable audio products of the last twenty-five years. The original Model One was a single-speaker table radio designed by Henry Kloss, defined by its wooden cabinet and its single large tuning dial.

The Model Two Digital keeps that language and adds network streaming, so the same object works with a modern music library.

What Apple Home actually does with it

This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.

• It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
• You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
• Siri can send music to it by room name.
• It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.

You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker and its own app.

Before you buy

The appeal is the design and the simplicity: a real knob, a real cabinet and no screen. If that is what you want, very little else offers it.

Judge the sound as a table radio rather than as a hi-fi system. It is designed to fill a kitchen or a bedside, not a living room.

The wood cabinet is genuine and finished as furniture, which is a large part of the price.
