ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint Smart WiFi Deadbolt

The ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint is a Wi-Fi deadbolt with a fingerprint reader built into the thumb turn. Wi-Fi is inside the lock itself, so there is no bridge to plug into a socket for remote access.

The thing to check before you buy

This model works with Apple Home, but it does not support Apple Home Key. You cannot tap an iPhone or an Apple Watch on it. Within ULTRALOQ’s range that feature belongs to the separate Bolt NFC model.

The two locks look similar and the names differ by one word, so it is an easy and expensive mistake to make. If tap-to-unlock is what you want, this is the wrong lock.

What works in Apple Home

• Lock and unlock the door from the Home app, and see the current state.
• Get a notification on every lock and unlock event.
• Use the lock in scenes and automations, and control it with Siri.

Siri asks you to authenticate before it unlocks the door. That is how Apple Home treats every lock, and it is not a limitation of this model.

Ways in

Fingerprint, a keypad code, the U-tec app and a mechanical key. Auto-unlock and auto-lock are configurable.

Before you buy

It fits most standard US doors and needs no drilling or wiring. Check the backset and the door thickness anyway.

Because the Wi-Fi radio is in the lock, battery life depends on how often it talks to your network. Position the lock within decent range of the router, or expect to change batteries more often.
