The Vifa Copenhagen 3.0 is a Danish portable wireless speaker, wrapped in Kvadrat wool fabric with a leather strap, designed to be carried between rooms and to look like an accessory rather than a gadget.
Vifa’s whole proposition is that a speaker should be a soft, textile object rather than a black plastic box, and the Copenhagen is the largest in the range.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 speaker rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can assign it to a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
You cannot switch it on or set its volume from the Home app the way you would a light. Those stay with the speaker and its own app.
Away from Wi-Fi it falls back to Bluetooth, at which point Apple Home cannot see it.
Before you buy
The fabric is a genuine consideration in a house with pets or small children, as it is with any wool-wrapped speaker.
Battery life on a speaker this size is measured in hours rather than days, and playing loudly shortens it considerably.
It is heavier than it looks, which is usually a good sign in a speaker and a bad one in something you carry.
