The Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus is the model in the Assure Lock 2 family built around Apple Home Key. Tap an iPhone or an Apple Watch on the lock and the door opens. A keypad handles guests who do not have a phone.
What works in Apple Home
- Tap an iPhone or an Apple Watch on the lock to open it with Apple Home Key.
- Lock and unlock the door from the Home app, and see the current state.
- Get a notification on every lock and unlock event.
- Use the lock in scenes and automations across the rest of your Apple Home.
Siri asks you to authenticate before it unlocks the door. That is how Apple Home treats every lock, and it is not a limitation of this model.
What it gives up
This is the important trade-off in the range, and it is easy to miss. The Plus has no fingerprint reader and no key cylinder. There is no mechanical key to fall back on, so the keypad and Home Key are your only ways in.
The Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch reverses the trade: it adds the fingerprint reader and the key cylinder, and drops Apple Home Key.
Connectivity
The base lock uses Bluetooth. Yale sells a Wi-Fi version, and the Yale Wi-Fi Smart Module upgrades a Bluetooth lock later. For Apple Home, remote access and automations need a HomePod or an Apple TV in the house.
