The Yale Wi-Fi Smart Module is an accessory, not a lock. It is a small card that slides into the battery compartment of a Yale Assure Lock 2 or a Yale Assure Lever and gives it Wi-Fi.

What it changes

A Bluetooth-only Yale lock works when your phone is near the door. With the module fitted, the lock joins your home Wi-Fi network instead, so the Yale Home app reaches it from anywhere and you no longer need a separate Yale Connect bridge plugged into a socket.

What it does not change

The module does not add Apple Home Key. Home Key depends on the lock, not on the radio. A Yale Assure Lock 2 Plus has Home Key with or without the module, and a Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch does not gain it by fitting one.

For Apple Home, remote access and automations still depend on having a HomePod or an Apple TV in the house.

Before you buy

Check which module your lock takes. Yale has sold more than one generation of smart module, and they are keyed to particular lock families. Buying the module separately usually costs more than choosing the Wi-Fi version of the lock at the outset, so it is best treated as an upgrade path rather than a plan.
