Yamaha Network Stereo Receiver R-N1000A/R-N800A
The Yamaha R-N1000A and R-N800A are the upper models in Yamaha’s network stereo receiver range, above the R-N600A.
The important difference is at the top: the R-N1000A includes an HDMI input with ARC, so it can take sound directly from a television. The R-N800A does not. If the television is a main source, that single socket decides which one you want.
Both include a phono stage, FM radio and Yamaha’s YPAO room calibration.
What Apple Home actually does with it
This is an AirPlay 2 device rather than a HomeKit accessory.
- It appears in the Home app as a speaker you can play to, and as an AirPlay target in Control Centre.
- You can put it in a room and group it with HomePods for synchronised multi-room audio.
- Siri can send music to it by room name.
- It can be the audio output in a scene or an automation.
Power, input selection and volume stay with the unit, its remote and its own app. The Home app does not control those.
Before you buy
Confirm which model you are being sold, because they are frequently listed together and the HDMI socket is the reason to pay more.
YPAO calibration is worth running properly. In a normal furnished room it does more for the sound than the step between these two models.
