A HomeKit air purifier is worth the premium for exactly one reason: the Home app becomes the place the machine lives. It turns on in a scene, it runs on a schedule that follows the rest of the house, and — on the good ones — its air quality reading is a sensor other automations can use, rather than a number trapped in the manufacturer’s own app.

That last distinction is the one to check before you buy. Plenty of purifiers are “smart” and only a few of those hand Apple Home a fan control and an air quality sensor.

This is a small market, and honestly so: fifteen purifiers in the directory, and most of the interesting ones are sold direct rather than through Amazon UK. Where we have no buy link below, it is because the manufacturer does not list the unit there — the search returns third-party replacement filters and nothing else.

HomeKit air purifiers worth considering

Best Apple Home integration: Airversa AP2

The Airversa AP2 is the only purifier in the directory that joins over Thread rather than Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth for setup and no hub of its own. That means it is on the low-power mesh your HomePod or Apple TV routes, it responds immediately, and it does not occupy a Wi-Fi slot. It combines a True HEPA filter with an activated carbon stage.

It is not stocked on Amazon UK — the listings there are replacement filters made by other companies. Buy it direct.

The one you can buy today: Molekule Air Mini+

The Molekule Air Mini+ works differently from everything else here. Its PECO process is designed to break pollutants down rather than trap them in a filter, and it runs at five speeds. It is rated for a small room, so treat it as a bedroom or a study machine and not a whole floor.

The affordable one: Meross Smart Wi-Fi Air Purifier

The Meross Smart Wi-Fi Air Purifier is the budget entry: Wi-Fi direct with no hub, three-stage HEPA filtration, and Meross’s usual pricing. Meross is the brand people buy when they want the smart-home function and not the appliance-brand markup.

Best sensors: Mila Air

The Mila Air reads PM1, PM2.5 and PM10, volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, and carries a pressure sensor that measures how blocked the filter actually is instead of counting down a timer. Mila also sells seven different filters for the same machine, so you choose the one that matches your problem. Direct from Mila; not on Amazon UK. The Mila Air Mini drops the VOC and pressure sensors — see the comparison.

How to choose a HomeKit air purifier

Match it to the room, not the house. Purifier coverage figures are quoted at an assumed number of air changes per hour. The generous number — the one on the box — usually assumes two changes an hour, which is barely enough to matter. The figure you want is the one at four or five changes. A machine rated for 1,000 square feet at two changes is a 400 square foot machine in practice.

Find out what filters cost, and where they come from. This is the real price of the appliance. Ask the question before you buy rather than in eighteen months, and check that the manufacturer still sells them: several purifiers in this category are represented on Amazon UK only by third-party filters, which is a useful signal about how the brand is doing.

Check what it exposes to Apple Home. A purifier that appears as a fan you can switch on is useful. A purifier that also publishes an air quality sensor is a different thing: you can automate on it, trigger it from other sensors, and see it on the Home app’s status line. Not every one does both.

Noise at the speed you will actually run it. Quoted noise figures are almost always the lowest speed. A purifier that is silent on speed one and unusable on speed four is a purifier that runs on speed one, which is a purifier doing very little.

Thread or Wi-Fi. Thread purifiers respond faster and stay off your Wi-Fi, but need a HomePod or an Apple TV to route for them. If you have one, prefer Thread. If you do not, Wi-Fi is fine and the difference is small for an appliance you set and forget.
